Storage Area Networks And Clustering To Experience Significant Growth, New Evans Data Survey

Evans: Almost 3 in 5 enterprise developers are expecting to increase the use of Storage Area Networks (SANs) and clustering in the next two years . At the same time, a third of enterprise developers are expecting to decrease their use of mainframes. Mobile applications are also expected to see major uptakes in adoption with 52% of respondents indicating an increase in their use in the next two years.

Other findings from the December 2005 survey of nearly 400 enterprise developers:

  • J2EE is used in the enterprise by more than 60% of developers, an 11% increase in six months, while just under 40% of developers in Small to Medium Businesses make use of the language.

    In the last year the use of Unix (all flavors including Mac OS X but not including Linux) in the enterprise has grown by almost 40% while Windows (all versions) use has dropped by 18%.

  • The top three security solutions for wireless devices are: mobile anti-virus software, 19%; content filtering, 18%; and, requiring critical updates before access to the enterprise is granted, 18%.
