Wi-Fi Services in Asia to Reach Nearly $1.3 Billion In 2010
In-Stat: The market for Wi-Fi services in the Asia/Pacific region, though currently in flux, will grow strongly from US$213.2 million in 2004 to US$1.29 billion in 2010. In recent years, service providers in Asia/Pacific have significantly expanded, or have drawn ambitious plans to expand, their hotspot coverage, especially in markets like South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and China. Some telcos’ movement towards Wi-Fi is still in fits and starts, however, which shows the inconsistency of the long-term Wi-Fi business strategy. The market is looking for a proven successful business model for Wi-Fi technology to fit into the telcos’ existing voice and data services future development roadmap.
