Chile Mobile Market to Reach US $1.33 Bn by 2007
RNCOS:In Latin America, Chile dominates in mobile subscription, around 66% in early 2006. The remaining population will be able to afford mobile phones by end 2006. Chile with around 66% has the highest mobile telephony penetration rates in Latin America. The ratio of its mobile subscribers to fixed line subscribers is 3:1. In fact, Chile’s mobile industry is one of the most competitive in the region. As per statistical data, the mobile companies decreased from four to three in January 2005 as Telefonica de Chile merged with BellSouth Chile. With messaging and data services to compensate the voice revenue competition, Chilean operators are seeking new sources of revenue. Chile’s mobile penetration in Latin America is 20% higher than the average. Although the limited purchasing capacity of the remaining population will be a major barrier for further increase in mobile users, by the end of this year the same population will be able to afford the mobile services thereby increasing the number of mobile users. By 2007 the Chilean mobile market will generate revenue of the amount of US $1.33 billion for its mobile operators making a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.4% world Mobile Market (2006)
