Advanced Functionality Drives Broadband Access Customer Premise Equipment in 2005,

Dell’Oro: Unit shipments for Cable, DSL and Passive Optical Networking (PON) customer premise equipment (CPE) each experienced robust double digit growth in 2005.

Subscribers are upgrading their lower function modems with more advanced CPE that are capable of handling new voice and video services as well as other home networking and security functions. Shipments of voice-enabled Cable CPE units almost quadrupled in 2005, while shipments of DSL routers nearly doubled. Meanwhile, DSL modem shipments fell by about 10 percent

The report also shows Thomson held the number one position for overall DSL CPE shipments followed closely by Siemens. For Cable, Motorola held the number one position for overall CPE shipments with Arris tops in the fast growing voice enabled CPE segment.
