Dell'Oro: The IP telephony carrier market continued to grow in first quarter 2005, fueled in large part by a 30 percent increase in softswitch subscriber licenses. Softswitch subscriber access sales are the fastest growing segment in the market with over 60 percent growth compared to the same period a year ago.

In the first quarter 2005, carriers purchased softswitches that will support over 11 million subscribers on packet-based next generation networks. Most of these softswitches are being deployed to support voice-over-broadband services provided by incumbent carriers and other service providers as they compete to attract subscribers by broadening their service offerings and geographic reach.
