Dynamic Growth in ZigBee Markets Will Be Sparked by Current Consolidation Moves

Global

WTRS: A new update of the Emerging Sensor and M2M Technologies & Markets. ZigBee sector of the marketplace is gaining momentum and suppliers are positioning for the final stages of product release. Integration Associates' acquisition of CompXs is a perfect example of the recent consolidation activity in the industry. Integration Associates has quite deftly, and in one fell swoop, swung itself into the forefront of leading ZigBee and IEEE 802.15.4 component vendors, placing it now squarely in competition with Freescale and Atmel. In a market space driving towards integration of controllers and RFICs, companies that are focused on providing customers with low-cost solutions that leverage existing design tools, development tools, and supplier relationships will gain the dominant share of the market. 802.15.4/ZigBee chipset sales in 2009 in are forecast at to exceed $220 million with a compound growth of 116% over the 2005-2010 period. While skepticism has been voiced as to the viability of ZigBee as a standard, the potential for growth in the segment remains strong. Commercial and Industrial applications that are typically driven almost purely by cost are likely the strongest sectors for ZigBee over the next 18 months.
